Field Trip: SC State Museum

Join us for a day of fun and learning at the South Carolina State Museum! Please see the details below.

Date: October 17th Time: 10:15am-2:00pm  

Itinerary:

Arrival: 10:15am

Check in: 10:15-10:25

STEAM Class: 10:30-11:30 (Free)

Free Time: 11:30-12:30

Planetarium: 12:30-1:00 ($3 each person)

Lunch: 1:00-1:30 (Bring a bagged lunch)

Free Time: 1:30-Close  

Cost:

Entry to museum – Free with proof of homeschooling ($5 for adults not listed as a homeschool teacher)

STEAM Class- Free Planetarium Show- $3 per person (adults and children)

Lunch – bring from home.  

Registration Information:

You must complete the Akoma field trip registration form no later than October 14th.

Payment is due at registration.

We will check in as a group at the museum. Upon arrival, museum staff will direct you to where you need to go to meet up with everyone.

Museum Entry:

Did you know entry to the SC State Museum is always free for homeschoolers?

You are required to show a picture ID and documentation proving you are registered to homeschool in SC.

You can use any documentation that you have received from your option 1, 2, or 3 registration with the state. Akoma members may also use their Akoma membership cards as proof. Not sure what documents to bring? Visit the museum's website for details:

Any adult whose name does not appear on any homeschool membership document must pay the reduced entry fee of $5.  

STEAM Class – FREE (optional) The STEAM class, Matter Matters, is recommended for grades 2 and up. Younger children may join if they do not disrupt the class. When registering for this field trip, you must specify the name and age of children who will be attending this class as there is a limit on attendance. Planetarium Show - $3 each person (optional) The planetarium show, Earth, Moon, & Stars, is for all ages. Each person attending needs a ticket. ($3 each) Assistive listening devices and captioning is available upon request. Please specify any accessibility accommodations requirements on the field trip registration form. Lunch – (Bring your own lunch) We have reserved the lunchroom at the museum from 1:00 to 1:30. If you would like to join us, please bring a bag lunch for your family. Museum staff will collect the lunch bags upon arrival and store them in the lunchroom until it's time for us to eat at 1:00pm.   Registration and payment are required for this field trip.
