MEET THE INSTRUCTOR: Meet Claudis Golden Williams, a retired Associate Teacher in Special Education of 25 years for Lexington Richland School District 5, and a lifelong member of Brookland Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. Claudia's love for singing blossomed during her time in various choirs in Brookland, including the Sun Beams Children's Choir, Teens Choir, and Sr. Musical Choir. She has also had the privilege of singing alongside her grandmother, father, and aunt in the Jubilee Choir. For over 21 years, Claudia has served as the dedicated leader of the Brookland Baptist Jubilee Choir, which boasts a membership up to 42 talented individuals. Her journey in learning to sing shape notes began more than 26 years ago, and she has since fostered relationships with conductors from the Edgefield-McCormick area, attending workshops and conventions to enhance her knowledge of shape notes and sheet music. Claudia has also conducted workshops at various churches and was appointed as the City Baptist Jubilee Special Choir director in 2017, bringing together individuals from different churches in the Columbia area. Aside from her musical pursuits, Claudia has shared her expertise through teaching a class on "The Art of Jubilee Singing" and participated as presenter, facilitator, and leader in various programs. Her passion for the Lord, love for interacting with people, fondness for fishing, and her grandchildren all contribute to her vibrant and multifaceted life.
