DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

At Akoma Cares we believe that all children deserve to receive quality educational experiences regardless of their race, religion, disability, socioeconomic status, or family dynamic. We value each child’s individuality and we realize that the differences among us make us stronger as a whole.

By embracing our diversity we can learn more about our world and ourselves. With this knowledge we are enabled to provide our children with the robust education that they deserve.

While we value the support and experience of all, this space is intentionally cultivated for Black and multiracial children and their caregivers. We strive to create a safe space for families to learn about and participate in home education in a way that is relevant to the experiences and concerns of those of the African diaspora.

Diversity: The representation of different and unique identities, characteristics,

experiences and perspectives.

Equity: Giving everyone what they need to succeed by increasing access, resources, and opportunities for all; especially for those who are underrepresented and have been historically disadvantaged.

Inclusion: A welcoming culture in which differences are celebrated and everyone is valued, respected, and able to reach their full potential.
